The term white in this case could be taken to mean the Pakeha race today who financially own and utilise most of the resources of the material ‘world’. From the spiritual point of view, however, the prophecy is imbued with far greater power if it is recognised that the actual “Owner of the World” is of “The Light”, and not “white”. Thus, the Owner of the World is The Light Warrior. Since all the colours of the spectrum (rainbow) make up white light, we can perhaps also designate Him to be The Rainbow Warrior (of Native American prophecy!).
“Kingi Nui rawa ki te Rangi!”
According to one particular “kaumatua” within Ngapuhi, this prophecy (though I do not think it is complete) was made by Turikatuku – matakite and blind wife of Hongi – after apparently ‘seeing’ water-bleached bodies floating in an arm of rough sea. It ostensibly predicts the coming of a Truth or the Teacher of that Truth. His teaching will have the effect of eventually sweeping the land of all that is wrong, thus returning it to a once natural and harmonious state. (i.e., Before the arrival of man.)
“O chiefs of the Ngapuhi, listen to me; let not the Treaty of Waitangi be covered by the flag
but let it be enshrined in a cloak of this land… Seeing that you Ngapuhi will not listen to
me, a spider will inhabit this house. There is a man coming, however, who will be carrying
two books: the Bible and the Treaty. You will listen to him.”

“From Katikati to Cape Runaway there will be one child. If he arrives within six years there
will be great tribulation. If his advent does not take place within that time, in twenty six
years he will arise from the west and unite the people.”

the Churches, on which we will come together, to be one in our direction and our canoe.”

“The day when the ‘white thread’ is revealed is the day when Ngapuhi will fulfil its spiritual destiny. The ‘white thread’ will be woven into the present ‘unfinished tapestry’ to complete it.”

This Prophecy indicates that little of real spiritual mana will be achieved by Ngapuhi until the ‘tapestry’ is completed. We should note, however, that “spiritual expectations” from prophecy are invariably very different to what many may expect to occur. Expectations from any prophecy naturally requires recognition of what finally ‘arrives’. And that clearly presupposes the need to then accept it and bring about its fulfilment, even if it may mean a new direction away from any ‘revered but incorrect’ beliefs. In this case, it is not that the “white thread” will magically appear in the ‘tapestry’, but that the people must weave and purify that thread themselves by living correctly – according to Spiritual Law! For the gift of the “white thread” will not simply be just ‘given’, but will need to be ‘earned’.

“And a Prophecy was given to the People…”
“We came to Aotea roa to nurture the land and walk in peace. And we followed the gentle
ways of Rongo Marae Roa down the ages and sheltered the kete that held the sacred songs
of our ancestors. There was joy in the land from generation to generation and then came
the greatest sorrow.
“Strange sails took shape before the wind and Tu Ma Tauenga visited the land with his
vengeful warriors. We did not take up weapons, for that is not our way, but in the strength
of our minds we stood against them offering healing where there was pain and returning
kindness for anger.
“And the Fires of War seared the land. And our tupuna looked behind the rising waves of
pain and out to the stars, and in words of binding prophecy, proclaimed…
“Walk in the shadows, hide in the mists, step behind the rainbow to save the taonga.
“Protect our ancestors. Hold the truth close and warm it with brave hearts, for pain will
consume the land and the circle of our dreams will be broken. And all will seem lost beyond
recall.
“Kia Kaha! Be strong! And the day will come when the taonga will be revealed once more.
And we will walk tall with the knowledge in the kete and find joy in the colours of the
rainbow.
“And the fires of truth will burn into the hearts of all people of the land. And they will find
the trails of gentleness and peace.
“Kahuri te Ao… the world turns. And the circle of our dreamtime takes a new shape for a
new dawn. And people of all colours join to bind what was broken and live in hope.”

The above prophecy from out of the “Race of Waitaha” holds, in essence, the same longing and hope for a genuinely spiritual Aotearoa and its peoples as that awaited by Ngapuhi through their prophecy of the “white thread”. The obvious reality of present-day Maori statistics clearly reveal how far Maoridom is from that desirable goal and thus the equally obvious fact that neither prophecy has yet been realised. Such a worthwhile desire, however, should provide the spur to critically hold up that vitally key word – why – and fearlessly address the issues. It is thus clear to me that the reasons for those unfortunate Maori statistics have their source in the
following prophecy/vision which I was graciously permitted to receive in May 1997:
“A suffocating psychic blanket lies over Aotearoa and Maoridom. It is woven from ‘forms’
generated by the collective refusal of Maoridom to follow the true spiritual path that the
line of Maori Religious Prophets trod and made clear – one necessary step after the other.
Instead, a different path has been chosen, opposite to the way of the Prophets, in the
incorrect belief that it is a genuinely spiritual one. It is taking Maoridom more and more
rapidly back down into those beliefs and practices that the latter, greater Prophets warned
to leave behind. The constant promotion of these wrong beliefs thus holds in place, and
unfortunately continues to thicken, that dark, unseen cover which detrimentally influences Maoridom.
The ‘completed tapestry’ lies above the lower suffocating one. It is the true “Cloak of
Spiritual Mana” which, however, belongs to “The Stranger” Who “Owns the World!” His
“Cloak” cannot and will not descend for Maori until Maori ‘voluntarily let go their lower
one’, which they believe to be spiritual. Not until all that is incorrect from out of the old has been ‘swept away’, can the completed, higher spiritual tapestry finally ‘cloak’ all the people, thus offering healing and grace to the inheritors of this land.”

Note:
Both the ‘white thread’ of Ngapuhi prophecy and the ‘new dawn and the binding again of
what was once broken’ from out of “Song of Waitaha”, is the knowledge contained within The Spiritual Laws of Creation in its inviolable outworking. Only the acceptance of those Laws can offer the possibility for the revelation of the ‘higher tapestry’. Moreover, the above Maori prophecies which are key statements in my view – at the time of their utterance – could only have ever fitted into a Maori frame of future spiritual promise — with the arrival of the Pakeha!
The fulfilment of the prophecies in terms of the past, the present, or for any future potential did not emerge, and indeed could not have emerged, from out of so-called ‘Maori spirituality’. Moreover, it is equally clear and logical that the ‘white thread’ cannot be contained within Maori Customary Law either. For, if that were the case, it would not be expected to appear from without. Therefore, the first recognition for those who wish to embrace “the way of the white thread” must be that only with the arrival of the Pakeha could all the key Maori prophecies have ever been fulfilled. Fulfilled, moreover, for the ultimate spiritual benefit of Maori! For it is eminently clear that what has eventuated thus far for Maori in terms of those prophecies is embodied, in essence, in that which the Pakeha brought to this land – the spiritual teachings contained within The Bible! They are the Truths which the greater Maori Religious Prophets clearly embraced as being absolutely necessary for the spiritual ascent of Te Iwi Maori!
For Ngapuhi then, and indeed for all of Maoridom, without this recognition as the first step, there cannot be either the “white thread” or the “new dawn”.
